Ne-Yo Teased Over Receding Hairline

Posted on January 24th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News | No Comments | Ask A Question

Ne-Yo Red Tails Premiere The Belgravia CentreMost R&B stars are known for being particularly image conscious, often sporting fine suits, expensive jewellery and other fashion accessories. But like the rest of us, there is little they can do to avoid the factors foisted upon them by them by their genetics. One such factor is premature hair loss.

R&B singer Ne-Yo revealed recently that during the filming of upcoming war film Red Tails, he was teased by his co-stars about his receding hairline.

Red Tails follows the exploits of a group of African American fighter pilots, the Tuskegee Airmen, during World War 2, and Ne-Yo’s co-stars include Cuba Gooding Junior and hip-hop artist Method Man.

As part of their training for the film, the assorted actors and recording artists that make up the cast were sent to a ‘boot-camp’ at a military training facility. It was here that Ne-Yo’s hair loss was the subject of some good-natured ribbing.

Ne-Yo explained that due to boredom amongst the co-stars, “We would just crack on each other. During the bootcamp there was no TV or cellphone, so at night… we’d just sit up and talk about each other.”

“We would make up movies based on whatever affliction that person had. Like, everybody knows my hairline is ridiculously comical so one of the films was Where Did My Hairline Go? starring Ne-Yo – and the whole room would crack up.”

Last year, after a twitter user touched unkindly on the singer’s hairline, he responded by tweeting on his account “Me n’ my harline (sic) just raised 100k for Japan, what did you do today?” and “Not a problem. Why would I focus on my fleeting hairline when my credit line is SO prominent? LOL!!”

What’s under Ne-Yo’s hat?

29 year old Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, does have a particularly high hairline, caused by the common genetic hair loss condition Male Pattern Baldness. But it seems that rather than doing anything about it he has opted to conceal his diminishing hairline with a series of ever more stylish hats. As he is rarely seen without a hat, his Ne-Yo Mugshot The Belgravia Centrefans may indeed be surprised by the extent of Ne-Yo’s hair loss, but a Google image search reveals one of few pictures sans hat – a mug shot taken after his arrest for reckless driving without a license.

Judging by the photograph, his hair loss has progressed quite a bit, with an ever receding hairline, but it’s not too late for Ne-Yo to do something to reverse it, should he choose to ditch the hats.

In the meantime, you may, or may not, be able catch a glimpse of Ne-Yo’s hairline when Red Tails, produced by Star Wars Jedi Master George Lucas, is released in the UK on an as yet unconfirmed date (US release is 20th January).

Treatments available for Ne-Yo’s receding hairline

At The Belgravia Centre, we could help Ne-Yo stabilise his hair loss and even re-grow his disappearing hairline, using scientifically proven treatments such as Minoxidil (with booster additives) and Propecia, and supportive treatments like the HairMax LaserComb or Hair Vitalics nutritional supplement.

So Ne-Yo, if you’re reading this, contact us to arrange a consultation to see how we can help you, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme which we can ship Stateside, or anywhere else in the world.

Is Christian Slater’s Hair Making a Comeback?

Posted on January 20th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Christian Slater He Was a Quiet Man The Belgravia CentreWith all the glamour of Hollywood and heroic deeds performed onscreen, sometimes it’s easy to forget that the actors we see 30-feet high on the silver screen are in reality just men.

But men they are, and actors are included along with the rest of us in the 50% genetic sweepstakes for suffering from Male Pattern Baldness by the age of 50.

At 42, Christian Slater is one actor who has suffered some hair loss, though not as noticeably as some of his contemporaries (for a much more severe vision of how Slater’s hair loss could look, check out the film He Was a Quiet Man). A high forehead and receding hairline betray the actor’s age more truthfully than his relatively youthful complexion.

True Romance?

But now, the Daily Mail has claimed that he may have undergone treatment to restore his hairline to that of his more youthful days when his image graced the bedroom wall of many a teenage girl.

Slater had a seemingly revitalised look when he appeared at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, where he was promoting his latest television series, Breaking In. According to the Mail: “His usual brown, slicked back ‘do was replaced with a sharper, edgier dark blonde that his character Oz dons in the TV show. And his hairline appeared to be making a surprise comeback, perhaps the result of a replacement procedure.”

Lies and Illusions?

Christian SlaterLooking at the pictures, Slater’s hair does indeed look different. However, a closer look reveals that the hairline is relatively unchanged, compared to pictures from several years ago, and the difference in appearance may be more easily attributable to the fact that the hair has been combed forward rather than being swept back as in the past. The lighter colour of course also does wonders for portraying a more youthful appearance.

Other pictures from the event in Pasadena, California, show that the actor’s hairline is still very much receding, casting further doubt on any ‘replacement procedure’, as the newspaper puts it. By this phrasing, the Daily Mail presumably means a hair transplant, in which normal healthy follicles are surgically removed from one part of the head and implanted in another area where hair loss is apparent.

Though such procedures are often popular with celebrities with money to burn, a hair transplant is far from the only treatment for hair loss, or even the best.

Hair loss treatments

While they may be popular with the rich and famous, hair transplant procedures are out of reach for many people with more modest means, costing anything between £3,000 and £30,000, depending on the number of follicles which need to be transplanted and the clinic you visit.

Money aside, it should also be remembered that a hair transplants is a surgical procedure, and caries the same risks as any other type of invasive surgery. There is also the requirement to use preventative treatments (usually indefinitely) following a hair transplant to maintain the hair that has not been surgically replaced.

Should Christian Slater wish to reverse his receding hairline, he has the excellent option of  getting in touch with the Belgravia Centre. We offer a range of scientifically proven hair loss treatments, which don’t involve massive costs or surgery. Propecia, Minoxidil, HairMax LaserCombs , Hair Vitalics and clinical therapy are just a few of the treatments which we use to achieve some fantastic results, as evidenced by our client success stories (the largest collection of its kind in the world).

So Christian, if you fancy a change that will really get the people talking, contact us for a consultation at our London clinic, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme that we can ship to Hollywood or anywhere else on the planet.

Animal Shedding and Human Genetic Hair Loss Linked, say Scientists

Posted on January 18th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss News | No Comments | Ask A Question

Jack the Dog shedding his winter coat The Belgravia centreAccording to new research by US scientists, the processes behind genetic hair loss, or Androgenetic Alopecia, may be linked to the way in which animals shed their coat on a seasonal basis.

The researchers, at the University of Southern California (USC), say that they have discovered that hair loss such as that which occurs in Male Pattern Baldness, is not just triggered by hormones present in the follicles, but in the tissue surrounding the follicle too.

The study’s lead author, Dr Cheng-Ming Chuong of USC, told MyHealthNewsDaily, “The hair-follicle stem cell is not only listening to the voice in the stem cell, but also the voice from outside.” He says that this is very similar to the way in which many animals grow thicker coats or shed fur according to the seasons, but that the signal which enables this to happen is not present in humans.

“This extra follicle-affecting factor has disappeared during human evolution,” Dr Chuong points out. But the scientists are hopeful that their research may pave the way for new hair loss treatments, using methods which not only focus on the hair follicle, but also the tissues surrounding the follicles.

“To deal with the hair growth you not only try to help the stem cell, but you can improve the ‘soil,’ like – you put a tulip bulb in a nicer soil, you will grow nicer hair,” said Chuong.

Understanding Male Pattern Baldness

The current understanding of the causes and processes of Male Pattern Baldness are that the follicles are affected by the chemical dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a derivative of testosterone triggered by the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase.This DHT causes the follicle to shrink, to the extent that it, and the hair it produces, may become microscopic in size.

While these new findings may further aid the treatment of Male Pattern Baldness, it should be remembered that there are already hair loss treatments on the market which can be used to effectively reduce hair loss and even re-grow hair.

Proven hair loss treatments

Some current hair loss medications, such as Propecia (which is licensed by the MHRA), work by reducing the amount of DHT present in the system. Propecia has been clinically proven to be both safe and effective for hair re-growth and stabilisation.

Other treatments, such as Minoxidil (also MHRA licensed) take a more holistic approach, as Dr Chuong suggests, dilating the blood vessels in the area surrounding the hair follicles, leading to an increase in nutrient flow. It should be pointed out though that, while Minoxidil has been scientifically proven to work, the reason why it works has not yet been established.

At The Belgravia Centre we use these two treatments together with a range of other personally tailored hair growth boosters, in order to maximise hair re-growth. One of our key goals is to get the scalp as healthy as possible to, as Dr Chuong puts it, ‘improve the soil’. To do so, we use hair growth boosters such as HairMax LaserCombs, and our own hair health supplement, Hair Vitalics, as well as clinical treatment sessions especially for the health and vitality of the hair and scalp.

To find out more about how we can help you re-grow your hair, contact us for a consultation at our London clinic, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme, which can shipped globally.

Bald Barbies to Help Children Deal with Hairloss

Posted on January 17th, 2012 by Chriss, under Female Hair Loss, Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | 1 Comment | Ask A Question

Beautiful and Bald Barbie 2 The Belgravia CentreBalding is a challenge for most adults to face but for children it can be a real trauma. Now, a new movement has emerged on Facebook, calling for toy manufacturers to make bald versions of their most iconic toys, to help children who are suffering from hair loss to come to terms with their condition.

Beautiful and Bald Barbie

The ‘Beautiful and Bald Barbie Facebook page’ currently has 125,000+ likes and counting, while its newly created ‘brother’ site  ‘Bald and Brave G.I. Joe’  has gained more than 5,000 likes in just 10 days.

The description on the Barbie page says: “We would like to see a Beautiful and Bald Barbie made to help young girls who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatments, Alopecia or Trichotillomania. Also, for young girls who are having trouble with their mother’s hair loss from [chemotherapy].” Their target is the toy manufacturer Mattel, which makes Barbie in all her many guises, and the page’s creators hope that if they get enough support for their idea the manufacturers will start to pay attention.

The idea of a bald Barbie is not without precedent, but is yet to see mass production. In early 2011 the company made a one-off bald version of Barbie for 4-year old Genesis Reyes from New York. In that instance the one-of-a-kind doll was made after a friend of a friend of a wife of the Mattel CEO tipped off the toy company that Genesis was sad about losing her hair due to chemotherapy cancer treatments.

Bald and Brave GI Joe

The Bald and Brave GI Joe movement meanwhile is pressuring toymaker Hasbro to make a hairless version of their iconic GI Joe action figure.

They hope that by creating a ‘cool’ boy’s toy without hair, young boys without hair will be more easily accepted at school, and find it easier to cope with their hair loss.

The Facebook group say that, “boys who suffer from hair loss due to Alopecia, Trichotillomania or chemo are often stared at and misunderstood. Most are assumed to have cancer when many have Alopecia. “

Hair loss, particularly in children, is often erroneously assumed to be caused by cancer, when in fact it is the cancer drugs and treatments which cause the hair loss. Alopecia meanwhile is a hair loss condition generated by an auto-immune disorder, and children who suffer from it are generally otherwise healthy.

They group on to say, “we would like to see a strong figure for young boys to relate to during play that has no hair, like them. With the up and coming new GI Joe movie being made it is rumoured Channing Tatum playing GI Joe will have a shaved head for the role. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have the new GI Joe action figures in relation to the movie be bald with awareness information on the box and a portion of proceeds to go towards one of the three causes of hair loss in children.

Hasbro and Mattel are yet to comment on the twin campaigns, but supporters are hopeful that they can make a difference in the lives of children suffering from hair loss.

Hair Extensions Now: Hair Loss Later?

Posted on January 16th, 2012 by Chriss, under Female Hair Loss, Hair Loss, Hair Loss News | No Comments | Ask A Question

Trichotillomania Extensions The Belgravia CentreThe Daily Mail carried a story earlier this week relating the stories of four women who had transformed their appearance and lives by wearing hair extensions. Although the women profiled felt better about themselves, the use of hair extensions could in fact be storing up problems with hair loss which could cause greater damage to their self esteem in the future.

Hair Extensions for Styling Ease

Two of the women interviewed outlined how they had turned to using extensions after having their hair cut into short ‘bob’ styles. Although the new cuts suited the women, they both felt that the new styles required additional preparation and styling on a daily basis, taking up far too much time to maintain. They therefore turned to hair extensions to provide body and length and allowing them to create much easier-to-maintain styles.

Hair Extensions to Cover Trichotillomania

Another of the interviewees admitted to suffering from rare obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) known as Trichotillomania. Trichotillomaniacs experience an overwhelming need to pull their own hair out, be it from their head or their eyebrows and eyelashes.

This particular lady had been pulling the hair behind her ears out since she was about sixteen and had continued to do so regularly for the next 20 years leading to a receding hairline and patchy hair loss. By using hair extensions to improve her hair’s appearance, she felt she was able to regain a lot of the confidence lost because of her illness.

A Short Term Solution With Long Term Negative Impact?

Permanent hair extensions must be attached tightly near the base of a woman’s own hair where they are woven tightly into the natural hair. Real human hair extensions can be washed and styled normally, making it very easy to maintain their look and feel. However it is this way in which the extensions are attached which causes later problems in the form of unexpected bald patches.

Although some hair loss is perfectly normal (a woman typically loses up to 100 individual strands of hair every day), hair pulled by the extensions can cause significant ongoing problems. The woman’s own hair is pulled taut by the weight of the extensions and the binding method which places great strain on the hair follicle in the scalp. When this strain is applied all day, every day for many weeks or months at a time, the follicle can be become deformed, stretching into a oval shape, and preventing future growth.

The Follicle is Damaged – Then What Happens?

Katie price traction alopecia the belgravia centreOnce the hair follicle has been stretched, the attached hair falls out. Once several hairs have fallen out, the problem becomes quite apparent as patches of the scalp are exposed. Colleen Rooney, Katie Price, Serena Williams and a long list of other a-listers, have been photographed showing signs of patchy balding caused by the near-permanent wearing of hair extensions.

This patchy baldness caused by pulling hair at the roots is known as Traction Alopecia and is frequently caused by wearing hair in cornrows, tight braids or other high-tension styles. Because hair extensions also apply damaging tension, they can have a similarly destructive effect.

Dealing with Hair Loss Caused by Hair Extensions

The first step to resolving Traction Alopecia related balding is to remove hair extensions immediately. Although this may undo many of the confidence-boosting benefits of the extensions, most women would prefer losing the extensions to losing their own hair.

The next step is to seek advice from a qualified hair loss professional such as those we employ here at The Belgravia Centre. Through a careful and thorough investigation our specialists will be able to advise on the type of hair loss being experienced, the potential causes and a suitable course of hair loss treatment to restore the hair as soon as possible.

Here at the Belgravia Centre we also have experience of dealing with the more common hair loss disorders such as female or male pattern hair loss. We can create treatment plans designed to cater to the specific needs of each woman or man seeking help and advice for their hair loss symptoms, drawing upon a number of clinically approved medications, such as Minoxidil and Propecia, licensed by the MHRA, and other hair growth boosters.

Could Protein Shakes Increase Hair Loss?

Posted on January 11th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

protein shake bald guy the belgravia centreReports in The Times of India newspaper suggest that modern dietary intakes could play a major part in the rise of hair loss in men in their twenties and thirties. Based around a study by Australian transplant surgeon named Jennifer Martinick, The Times claims that protein shakes may be a contributing factor when it comes to hair loss.

Martinick believes that a preoccupation with looks is causing many men to risk the health of their hair through the intake of various dietary supplements. The report singles out protein shakes used as part of an exercise regime as being one potential cause of hairloss.

It’s not the Protein

Although Dr Martinick suggests that protein shakes may be damaging to a man’s hair, she points out that not all dietary supplements are unhealthy or problematic. According to the Australian’s report, certain shakes contain a number of additives which have the potential to affect the hormone balance of the person using them.

Protein shake additives such as inorganic growth hormones and creatine are intended to promote the growth of muscle mass, but in doing so they can also raise testosterone levels within the blood stream. Initially these growth hormone additives are not necessarily harmful, but in men who are genetically predisposed to balding, the loss can be accelerated.

Growth Hormones Which Stop Growth?

Elevated testosterone levels are of particular concern to men with a family history of hair loss because the hormone can exacerbate the thinning of their own hairline. Testosterone can be problematic for certain people because of the way their bodies handle the hormone.

For men with Androgenic Alopecia, or male pattern balding, testosterone is broken down by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. The resulting chemical is called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT for short) which then inhibits the growth of new hair cells in the scalp. As time goes on, the lack of growth means that the man in question loses hair through normal shedding processes but which cannot then be replaced.

The protein shakes mentioned by Dr Martinick become a problem for men susceptible to Androgenic Alopecia because they promote the production of increased levels of testosterone. The more testosterone present in a balding man’s blood, the more hormone is converted into the androgen DHT, which in turn affects more hair follicles than normal. Protein shakes do not themselves cause a receding hairline, but they can certainly accelerate the process for certain men.

What to do?

As identified by Dr Martinick, the first step for men experiencing hair loss as a result of their fitness regime is to cut out protein shakes containing growth hormones, such as creatine and DHEA, and switch to an organic alternative. For men with Androgenic Alopecia, a switch of protein shake brands will only slow hair loss, so further professional advice should be sought.

Researchers have also found that physical exercise regime has a part to play in hair loss, regardless of the dietary supplements used. Men undertaking short, intense workouts using heavy weights with a view to increasing muscle bulk will also elevate their testosterone levels. As with growth hormone-induced testosterone levels, increased hair loss is again the logical outcome.

For men wishing to remain fit and hairy, the solution is to move away from intense workouts towards more aerobic-based exercise. Not only do aerobic exercises maintain a good level of fitness, but they also help reduce the level of androgens borne in the bloodstream helping protect hair follicles from attack.

Brad Pitt – Hair Loss Is Not a Problem, Or Is It?

Posted on January 9th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Brad Pitt Hair LossFor a man of Brad Pitt’s fame and age, his never-changing hairline remains something of a curiosity. Unlike many of his celebrity contemporaries, Pitt’s hair has remained thick and healthy without any apparent need for transplant operations. Does he have a miraculously resilient hair line, or has he managed to head off hair loss before it became noticeable?

For men approaching 50 years of age, as Pitt himself is, there is a 50-50 chance that they will have experienced some form of a hair loss, whether it be a receding hair line or thinning of the vertex. Certain health conditions or events increase the likelihood of hair being shed and in the case of Brad Pitt it is highly likely that he has experienced at least some of these.

Pitt has been photographed leaving a skin spa earlier this week showing clear signs of ageing, walking with a stick and sporting a greying beard. His hair though looks the same as always, thick, full and long.

So how has he managed to keep his hair so healthy? Or indeed at all?

Proactive Treatment is Better than Reactive Surgery

Some celebrities, like Wayne Rooney, have had high profile hair transplant surgery to correct bald patches and thinning hairlines. Allowing your hair to thin to a level where a transplant is required can cost as much as £30,000 + as it did in Rooney’s case. What’s more, there is no guarantee that such surgery will be a success and preventative treatments are compulsory after having had a hair transplant to maintain the rest of the hair, so why not prevent the problem before it gets to this stage?

Men who observe hair loss early on and seek specially formulated, licensed and proven hair loss treatments can often regrow the lost locks before anyone notices and with minimal expense. If Brad Pitt has ever experienced thinning hair, then it’s most likely he has done the clever thing and undertaken the right kind of treatment to correct the loss before the paparazzi could get hold of the story.

Men who find that they have patchy hair loss or thinning hair at the temple and crown have a number of treatment options open to them with a high degree of regrowth success. Medications such as Propecia or Minoxdil are not only clinically approved by the health regulators on both sides of the Atlantic (the MHRA and FDA), but are also proven to prevent further hair loss and encourage regrowth. Using specially formulated versions of one or more of these treatments, along with the right hair growth boosters suited to the individual’s condition and pattern of hair loss, will ensure hair loss can be stopped and hair regrown in the great majority of cases.

The genius of this course of action is that hair can be regrown before the loss becomes noticeable. And if no one ever notices the initial hair loss, it is quite possible to maintain the appearance of always having had a full head of hair – just like Mr Pitt.

The Belgravia Centre has a long list of a-list celebrity patients that have never hit the tabloids for reasons of excessive hair loss because they have acted at the right time.

Maximum Confidentiality Assured

The Belgravia Centre takes the confidentiality of its clients extremely seriously, always ensuring anonymity and acting to protect their identities and hair loss treatments at all costs. Any client, male or female, can be completely confident of receiving the exact hair loss treatment they need without having to tell anyone about their hair health concerns. View the world’s largest collection of hair loss success stories to see what kind of results are so likely with our treatment programmes. All of the patients featured have of course consented to us using their comments and before/during treatment photos.

For clients who cannot attend our Victoria-based premises, we also offer an online diagnostic form and home treatment option. People electing to take this route are able to treat themselves in the comfort of their own home.

The Belgravia Centre is the UK’s leading hair loss clinic, but thanks to our postal prescription service we also serve clients across the world. So whether an A list celebrity or simply a concerned citizen, The Belgravia Centre have a range of treatment options available to meet their specific needs. We strongly recommend that men and women contact our hair specialists as soon as they notice increased shedding – we can then create a treatment plan to suit you. Does Loving a Younger Woman Guarantee Hair Regrowth?

Posted on January 6th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Paul Daniels The Belgravia CentreThe ageing Lothario with a younger woman on his arm is the Hollywood cliché. The stereotypical man in question also appears to sport a new head of thick, glossy hair further serving to underline his masculinity. But is this realistic? Which comes first, the younger woman or the hair regrowth?

For many, the most obvious example of this phenomenon is found much closer to home in the form of Paul Daniels. Accompanied everywhere by his glamorous assistant and wife, the lovely Debbie McGee, the 73 year old magician for many years appeared to have escaped the receding hairline which affects three quarters of men of the same age.

What is Paul Daniels’ Secret?

Is having a much younger partner the recipe for extended hair line retention? Apparently not. Daniels first noted thinning hair in his early twenties, something he attributed to an act of ‘magic’. As a result Paul Daniels wore a wig for much of his professional career as a magician, giving the impression of a full head of hair when in fact he was experiencing significant loss through androgenic alopecia.

Daniels finally decided to retire his hairpieces earlier this year as part of the promotion for his ‘Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow’ tour. He even went as far as auctioning one of his wigs for charity on eBay where it sold for £1,100.

Hairline and Confidence

Despite Daniels’ success in attracting younger women (his biography alleges he has had over 300 sexual partners), many men experiencing hair loss suffer a related decline in self-esteem too. Because of this, treatment for male pattern balding has a significant impact beyond hair regrowth.

As with Paul Daniels, a younger partner is no guarantee of hair regrowth, or retention. There are, however, a number of effective treatments to combat most hair loss conditions that do not involve hairpieces of the magician’s variety.

Treating Hair Loss Properly

Dependent on a client’s specific situation, The Belgravia Centre’s experts have a number of hair loss treatments that have a proven track record of encouraging regrowth. Alongside medications such as Propecia and Minoxidil, Hair Growth Boosters such as the HairVitalics dietary supplement, unique to The Belgravia Centre, and the HairMax LaserComb can both assist in preventing further hair being shed.

All of the treatments prescribed by our hair loss specialists are tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Each of the medications have been cleared for use by both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agency of America and the Medicines and Healthcare Product Regulatory Agency (MHRA) of the United Kingdom. The LaserComb has also been cleared by teh FDA. These regulatory bodies safeguard public health by assessing treatments prior to approval for use on patients.

Best yet, our unique Hair Growth Boosters are included in the cost of many of our hair loss treatment plans.

Moving On

The first step in restoring hair and confidence is to arrange an appointment with a hair loss specialist. During the course of a free initial consultation, clients of The Belgravia Centre will have their hair examined and an initial treatment plan will be developed according to their previous medical history.

As Hair Regrows, So Too Does Self Confidence

There are many success stories of hair regrowth on our website.  Many of our patients also report additional benefits, perhaps the most important of which is an increasing level of self-confidence.

Few football fans will have failed to notice the correlation between Rooney’s return to form on the football pitch and his thicker, fuller head of hair. Having undergone a high profile hair transplant operation earlier in the year, Rooney went on to a hair restoration regime which included the drug Propecia. Football pundits are always keen to point out that a striker’s success is directly related to their confidence; Rooney’s resurgence in front of goal could well be related to his returning hairline.

One of the other benefits of increased self-esteem and confidence is the way it helps in establishing relationships. Anecdotally men who are confident in their appearance also find it easier to be confident when approaching members of the opposite sex. It is this increased confidence which leads many to assume that hair regrowth may be a factor in older men attracting younger women.

New Treatments for Greater Success

Previously men experiencing hair loss had two choices; the Paul Daniels approach involving the use of ever more unsubtle wigs, or to simply grin and bear it. Eventually even Paul Daniels realised that his hairpiece was probably not the best choice!

The development of proven hair loss reversal drugs and personalised treatment plans have increased the options open to men (and women!) helping to restore not only hairlines, but also confidence in the process. As the UK’s leading hair loss clinic, The Belgravia Centre have a proven track record in successfully treating conditions such as male pattern baldness.

So to find out more about how The Belgravia Centre can help restore your confidence, complete our online diagnostic form or contact us to arrange an initial, free consultation with one of our hair loss experts. If you can’t get to London we can mail your personalized hair loss treatments anywhere in the world.

Hot Fuzz: Has Simon Pegg Taken Action over Hair Loss?

Posted on January 5th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Simon Pegg Mission Impossible The Belgravia CentreJust before Christmas, it was Simon Pegg’s turn to have the spotlight shone on his receding hairline, accompanied by speculation that he might have had treatment to reverse his hair loss.
According to the Daily Mail the well-known British comedy actor, who has starred in films such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run and cult TV favourites such as Spaced, was sporting a “fuller head of hair” when he appeared at December’s premiere of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in Paris. His new hairline is comparable to some of Belgravia’s Hair Loss Success Stories.

In the fourth instalment of the popular Mission Impossible film franchise, Pegg reprises his role as IMF technician Benji Dunn, opposite movie megastar Tom Cruise. The Daily Mail even speculates that Simon Pegg might have been spurred on to have hair loss treatment due to his close proximity to the ever youthful-looking Cruise.

According to the paper, Pegg was, “sporting a rather healthier head of hair with a hairline that seems to have shifted a tad further forward.” Looking at the pictures, the actor’s hairline does indeed appear to be somewhat fuller, particularly at the edges.

A classic case of a receding hairline

The type of hair loss experienced by Simon Pegg is known as Male Pattern Baldness, and this is far from a particularly serious case. The most visible element is his receding hairline and prominent widow’s peak, whereas some men his age (41) have already lost a good deal more hair and may have distinctive bald patches.

Male Pattern Baldness is the most common form of hair loss which affects men, and it has been estimated that roughly half of all men will experience it to some degree by the time they reach 50. It is a genetic hair loss condition, known scientifically as Androgenetic Alopecia, which can be inherited via either the maternal or paternal line.

Jennifer Aniston Comes Clean About Hair Loss From Extensions

Jennifer Anniston New Do The Belgravia CentreFamed for being the owner of the hairstyle of the 1990′s, Jennifer Aniston has hit the headlines with her hair once more. The 42-year-old Hollywood star and former wife of Brad Pitt has admitted that a dramatic change of hairstyle earlier in the year was caused by damage and hair loss incurred through the wearing of hair extensions.

Jennifer Aniston first came to prominence through her portrayal of the glamorous girl next door Rachel in the hit comedy ‘Friends’. Such was the popularity of Friends that women the world over attempted to emulate the legendary ‘Rachel’ haircut, making it an icon of the period. Aniston herself is far more dismissive of the hairstyle, once describing it as the ‘ugliest haircut (she’d) ever seen’.

At the end of a decade-long run in Friends in 2004, Jennifer Aniston made the permanent transition to the big screen with a role opposite Clive Owen in Derailed. Other roles since have included parts in ‘The Break-Up’, ‘The Bounty Hunter’ and most recently ‘Horrible Bosses’.

What was the Problem?

In an interview with American cable news channel MSNBC, Aniston explained that her use of extensions had damaged her own her to such a degree that it was no longer repairable. “The real reason I cut my hair? My real hair was getting thinned out again from all the extensions,” said Jennifer, “It was starting to look fake.”

The 'Rachel' The Belgravia CentreFaced with the choice of using yet more extensions to cover the damage, or to literally cut her losses, Aniston chose the latter. Despite several gossip column inches being dedicated to the dramatic hair length changes in the middle of the promotional activities for her movie “Just Go With It”, Aniston maintains she made the right choice. The furore seems to have been caused by Aniston’s previous reluctance to change hairstyles for years, making the transformation from shoulder length locks to trendy bob all the more noticeable.

Extensions and Hair Loss

Hair extensions have received a lot of attention over the past year as more and more celebrities encounter problematic side effects associated with long term use. Aniston is the latest high profile woman to have issues, following in the footsteps of Colleen Rooney, Katie Price and Serena Williams among others, all of whom have been photographed showing significant patchy hair loss.

Hair loss experts are keen to point out that occasional wearing of hair weaves and extensions should have no long lasting negative effects, but that sustained and continuous usage can result in similar problems. Aniston’s confession to MSNBC reveals her dilemma and regret – fortunately she appears to have been able to resolve the situation before losing large patches of hair.

It’s not only celebrities: any woman using similar products on a constant basis is open to the same hair damage and loss. The bonding glue used to attach hair extensions can strip hair of its protective layers, whilst the additional weight of synthetic hair can place pressure on hair follicles, causing the ‘real’ hair to fall out.

Most problematic of all are extensions based around weaves which use tiny braids to hold extensions against the wearer’s scalp. Weaves place the wearer’s hair under tension, before adding the additional weight of the extension. This combination of weight and tension places strain on the wearer’s hair follicles, stretching them and causing hair to fall out. Known as Traction Alopecia, hair which is pulled out in this way can cause permanent damage to hair follicles and prevent hair regrowth.

Correcting Hair Loss Caused By Hair Extensions

For any woman experiencing hair loss and damage caused by hair extensions, the first course of action has to be removal of the artificial hair integrations as soon as possible. Many women find that the damage renders their own hair unsightly and would prefer to cover it with further extensions – unfortunately this will make the problem worse and should be avoided at all costs to prevent permanent hair loss.

If the damage is less than extensive, for many women a trip to a professional hair stylist should be enough to correct appearance and prevent further shedding. Often the woman in question may require a fairly dramatic change in style like Jennifer Aniston, to remove damaged hair, but over the long term her hair will grow back normally and healthily without having to resort to medical intervention.

When a Haircut Will Not Suffice

Sometimes hair loss and damage caused by extensions and weaves cannot be corrected with a simple change of hairstyle. For women who have discernible patches of thinning hair, a trip to a hair loss specialist is recommended.

At The Belgravia Centre we see many women who have experienced patchy hair loss as a direct result of overuse of hair extensions and offer a number of highly successful hair loss treatments for correcting it. Using our wide experience we consider the needs of each client on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the correct treatment plan can be created for their specific needs.

Many of these treatment plans use the clinically approved Minoxidil medication which has been formulated to prevent further hair loss and promote regrowth. Minoxidil helps to increase blood flow to the scalp, ensuring that vital nutrients are delivered to hair follicles for maximum hair growth potential. It is licensed for use in Britain by the MHRA for female pattern hair loss but is also known to work well for other forms of hair loss such as traction alopecia.

Our hair loss specialists can also suggest a number of complementary therapies designed to work in conjunction with Minoxidil. Our unique HairVitalics dietary supplement contains a number of vitamins and minerals believed to help condition existing hair and prevent further thinning.
