It has been specially designed by the Belgravia pharmacy to target stubborn areas of hair loss and complement other hair growth treatments such as Propecia, minoxidil 5% + MPG liquid and hair growth supplements such as Hair Vitalics.

Minoxidil is a medication that is licensed by the MHRA (the UK’s medical regulatory body) to treat genetic forms of hair loss (Male Pattern Hair Loss and Female Pattern Hair Loss). Following a large-scale clinical study, a 5% dose of the product was found to prevent hair loss in most cases and regrow hair for many of those people. After treating patients with minoxidil 12.5% for a number of years, many have reported increased results from the use of Belgravia’s high-strength minoxidil cream.

Minoxidil is also known to help other hair loss conditions such as Alopecia Areata, Traction Alopecia and Diffuse Thinning with great success, although unlike for genetic hair loss, there has not been an official clinical study carried out for these conditions. Our hair loss specialists have found minoxidil 12.5% cream to be especially beneficial for patchy hair loss conditions such as mild to moderate Alopecia Areata or Traction Alopecia. This is because the cream can be applied directly to the areas of hair loss without wastage or dripping, which can be a problem with a liquid minoxidil.

If you would like to enquire about the treatments on offer from The Belgravia Centre or arrange a free consultation at our London clinic, please contact us on 0800 077 6666 or message the centre if you are from the UK.

Ant and Dec (right) at the National Television Awards 2012

A little while ago we reported that Declan Donnelly – Dec, of Ant and Dec fame – had been rumoured to have had a hair transplant or some other form of hair loss treatment.

Now, a source close to the star has come forward to put the record straight on the popular presenter’s hair loss and apparent re-growth.

At the end of January, the unnamed source told The Sun that, “Declan has certainly not had a transplant.” Some in the media, The Sun included, have speculated in the past that Dec’s changing hairline might have been the result of a surgical procedure, though this was based entirely on speculation.

According to The Sun, Dec had, “set tongues wagging by appearing at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night with a luxuriant head of hair – a far cry from his previous thinning mop.

The source went on to say that, “He knows his hairline is receding and has taken some steps to tackle it. There are all sorts of remedies out there you can get, including tablets and shampoos. He’s not exactly kept it a secret. He was even joking about it at the NTAs (National Television Awards) as people he hadn’t seen for a while had noticed the change.”

The source does not appear to have gone on record saying that Dec is definitely taking the aforementioned tablets and shampoos, but according to The Sun, “He is understood to have opted for a mix of special one-a-day tablets of hair growth chemical and shampoo… one tablet he is likely to have started taking is Propecia.”

What is Propecia and how does it work?

Propecia is one of only two pharmaceutical treatments which have been scientifically proven to actively stabilise and reverse hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness. It works by inhibiting formation of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase in the body, which in turn prevents the formation of the natural chemical Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is this DHT which is responsible for the shrinking of hair follicles to an almost microscopic level, thus leading to the appearance of hair loss. By reducing levels of DHT in the body, Propecia can effectively keep Male Pattern Baldness at bay, and give it a chance to re-grow.

If Declan Donnelly is indeed using Propecia to treat his hair loss condition, then he should be reassured by the fact that it has been licensed for this purpose by the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency(MHRA) here in the UK, and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The only other pharmaceutical treatment to receive this recognition is Minoxidil.

For many people, Propecia, and Minoxidil, are a far better way of dealing with hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness than having and expensive hair transplant. Hair Transplants can also be risky, as they are a form of invasive surgery, and what’s more, no guarantees are provided that they will work, despite their often £6,000+ price tag. In fact Propecia is often given to people after they have had a hair transplant.

It’s likely that Dec is taking Propecia as part of a comprehensive treatment programme which includes a variety of complementary hair loss treatments. This would involve first a diagnosis, to assess and evaluate the state of the hair loss, followed by the recommendation of a number of treatments.

Hair loss treatments at The Belgravia Centre

This is what we do at The Belgravia Centre. We treat each case of hair loss individually, and rather than prescribing a single ‘miracle cure’ for all, we take time to identify the treatments which will work best for the individual with hair loss. As well as Propecia and Minoxidil, we may recommend a course of clinical treatments, such as laser and infra-red light therapy, steam and massage treatments.

We also use hair growth boosters to stimulate the follicles and ensure that your hair is at optimum health. These include FDA cleared HairMax LaserCombs – a handheld laser device for use on the scalp – and our own Hair Vitalics nutritional supplement.

If like Dec you suffer from Male Pattern Baldness or another hair loss condition, you can take steps to prevent further hair loss and re-grow the hair you’ve lost. To find out more about our hair loss treatments contact us today for a no obligation consultation. Alternatively, fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home use treatment programme, wherever you are in the world.

“If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it,” were the immortal words once uttered by Matthew Broderick in the hit eighties film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He was of course talking about life, not hair loss, but anyone whose seen his new advert for Honda could be easily misled.

If you haven’t seen the film, Broderick plays the role of teenager Ferris Bueller, who decides that not only is he not going to school today, he’s going to have all kinds of crazy adventures with his two friends into the bargain.

The new advert for Honda’s CR-V sees him reprise the role with tongue firmly in cheek, but for anyone who has failed to see any of his films since Ferris, the most notable thing about the commercial may be Broderick’s balding and receding hairline.

The advert was screened at this year’s Super Bowl – a big day for both American Football and commercials on the other side of the pond. It begins with Broderick feigning illness to his agent before embarking on a series of homages to the film, which has since achieved the status of a minor classic. If you want to check out Matthew Broderick’s middle-aged day off, you can find the video below. His original hairline meanwhile can be seen in the original trailer for the 1986 film, also found below.

Ferris Bueller grows up and gets Male Pattern Baldness

Of course, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off first hit our screens 26 years ago, when Matthew Broderick was just 23 years old. Now, with his fiftieth birthday coming up in March, it’s completely understandable that his hair isn’t quite what it used to be. It’s been estimated that 50% of all men will suffer from Male Pattern Baldness by the time they reach 50.

Of course, Matthew Broderick’s receding hairline is far from being the worst case of Male Pattern Baldness, and many people who were themselves just teenagers when the film came out may be today showing more serious and noticeable hair loss.

So, at the age of 49, why hasn’t Broderick lost more of his hair? The secret could well be in his genes – everyone suffers from different patterns of genetic hair loss, and to varying extents, based on how their body reacts to the naturally occurring chemical dihydrotestosterone. Some may lose most or all of their hair; others may just get a receding hairline like Matthew Broderick, while some people may not suffer from genetic hair loss, or Androgenetic Alopecia, at all.

Take a stand against Male Pattern Baldness

If you too are noticing hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness, contact us at the Belgravia Centre for a consultation, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme. To paraphrase Ferris Bueller, don’t sit around as the events that affect you unfold, take a stand and defend your hairline. We have the world’s largest collection of hair loss success stories, featuring ‘before and during treatment’ photos and comments written by users of our treatment programmes. We think you’ll be amazed at the results that so many men (and women) achieve.

During a recent interview with the Daily Star newspaper, footballer and global superstar David Beckham confessed that he fears going bald in the future. When asked about whether he had undergone a hair transplant, or would consider one in future, he said, “Someone said I’d had a hair transplant. There’s definitely nothing wrong with doing that, but I don’t think personally I would. If I do start showing signs of going bald, then I will shave it off. I’ve still got hair. I’m still fighting it.”

Many of Beckham’s fears about hair loss seem to stem from the fact that his father Ted went bald, and genetically he too stands to experience a receding hairline or thinning hair as a result. Yet despite the popularity of hair transplant operations, such as that undergone by fellow England footballer Wayne Rooney, Beckham has already ruled them out.

However, because David Beckham is aware that his family has a predisposition to male pattern balding he can take proactive steps to retain his healthy hair before the he noticeably loses any at all.

How Do You Play This? Passing or Possession?

From what Beckham said, it is clear that he is taking good care of his hair, but doing little to actively prevent future hair loss. Knowing that there is a good chance he will later develop some form of hair loss, such as Androgenic Alopecia, based on his family history, Beckham is missing a good chance to retain all the hair he has from now on.

Eat Well for Hair Health

As an athlete and major media star, David Beckham is keeping himself in excellent physical shape through good diet and exercise. Healthy hair and continued growth rely on a steady supply of key vitamins and minerals being delivered through the blood stream to the hair follicles in the scalp. Some hair loss experts also suggest that consumption of foods high in antioxidants, such as berries, tomatoes and peppers can also reduce the symptoms of balding.

Given the importance of diet, Beckham would do well to maintain his current eating patterns to stave off a potential receding hair line in the future. Beckham may also benefit from choosing to use the unique HairVitalics dietary supplement available exclusively from The Belgravia Centre.

Reduce Stress to Prevent a Receding Hairline

Stress has been identified as one of several contributing factors in hair loss, particularly in relation to the condition known as Telogen Effluvium. Often hair loss caused by stress is temporary and regrows of its own accord at a later date.

However, knowing that stress can cause or exacerbate hair loss conditions, anyone who fears they are at risk would be well advised to avoid certain situations and activities which place them under pressure.

David Beckham and his wife Victoria have a number of contractual obligations both on and off the football pitch which means that they both lead extremely busy lives. This constant round of engagements places them under extreme pressure, potentially leading to stress and thereby raising the risk of hair loss. If David is serious about maintaining his hairline in future, he might do well to scale back some of his activities.

The Number 7 is Making a Play Forward

Yet despite these tips, David Beckham may only be able to slow the onset of baldness, rather than prevent it entirely. Androgenic Alopecia caused by genetics cannot be halted through lifestyle changes alone and eventually any man or women who is susceptible to pattern balding will succumb.

Fortunately there are a number of extremely successful hair loss treatments which can be employed as soon as the first signs of hair loss are noticed. Men and women both experience shedding of hair on a daily basis, with 80 to 100 strands being about average, and normally new hair grows at the same rate to replace that which is lost. However if a person notices consistent loss of more than this, they could well be experiencing a more serious condition such as Androgenic Alopecia.

Because prevention is always better than cure, a person losing hair should seek professional advice as soon as they realise there is a problem. By acting quickly, hair loss experts can implement a treatment routine to regrow the hair before anyone else notices a receding hairline or thinning vertex.

Better Than a Hair Transplant

What is perhaps most worrying with David Beckham’s interview is his assumption that a hair transplant is the only solution to balding. The publicity surrounding Beckham’s England teammate Wayne Rooney, and his hair transplant has unfortunately led to many people assuming that they cannot combat their own hair loss in any other way.

An initial consultation with a hair loss expert should quickly identify any hair loss condition and allow for the creation of a personalised treatment plan to combat the issue. Every client of The Belgravia Centre receives a unique treatment plan formulated to meet their specific needs and requirements for maximum hair regrowth success, and the plan can involve several different elements. This can be delivered by post via our online diagnostic form as well as in person.

Normally the Belgravia Centre uses a number of treatments which are licensed by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) for treating hair loss. These treatments proven to slow and reverse hair loss and Belgravia uses a number of booster products and clinical monitoring to help boost results and ensure optimum rates of regrowth.

He Scores!

Now that Beckham has gone on record to state he will never undergo a hair transplant operation, he has potentially made a number of problems for himself, particularly if, as he fears, his hair starts to fall out. Fortunately other treatments available could not only help David retain his hair in tip-top condition, but in such a way that no one ever notices it had started to fall out.

To find out more about dealing with a receding hairline early, contact us to arrange a free, no-obligation appointment with one of our hair loss experts today.

But recent photos taken during a lunch date with her art director husband Charles Saatchi in London suggest that her new health-conscious outlook could be causing hair loss in addition to weight loss.

Famed for her no-compromise approach to cooking, Nigella Lawson is as famous for her curves and long, glossy hair as she is for the dishes she creates. However passersby will have been surprised to note clear signs of thinning at the back of her head, around the crown.

Is the Hair Loss Caused by Her Diet Plan?

Hair loss specialists have long known that certain diets can lead to thinning hair if not monitored carefully. Hair health is entirely dependent on a constant supply of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Should the supply of nutrients be disrupted or stopped, a person’s hair will immediately lose its body and shine, becoming brittle and prone to breakage. If the hair follicles which pass minerals to the hair are deprived for long enough, the attached hair can eventually fall out altogether.

So called ‘fad’ diets are often blamed by hair loss experts for causing hair loss in men and women because they can fail to maintain intake of the nutrients essential for healthy hair. Any diet which reduces a person’s levels of vitamins A, B or C, folic acid or iron all have the potential to cause hair loss.

Nigella Lawson is particularly famous for creating dishes which emphasise rich flavours, regardless of the calorie and fat content. It is therefore entirely possible that the change in her diet has led to a corresponding shift in her vitamin and mineral intake. Nigella’s transformation has been relatively speedy, suggesting that she is on some form of extreme diet coupled with a physically grueling exercise regime. It is no stretch of the imagination to think that there is a correlation between her weight and apparent hair loss.

Could it be Stress-Related Hair Loss?

Stress is also known to be a common cause of hair loss in men and women, which often manifests in a condition known as Telogen Effluvium. Taking up to three months for the associated hair loss to begin, Telogen Effluvium can be caused by all manner of stressful situations which cause a hormonal imbalance.

Telogen Effluvium causes a person’s hair follicles to enter a ‘resting’ phase prematurely so that the attached hair stops growing. Once hair follicle enters telogen, the hair falls out. People experiencing Telogen Effluvium are often shocked by the unexpected hair loss which begins around three months after the stressful event which triggers the condition.

Perhaps somewhat unexpected is the fact that dieting and stress can be closely related, with some food regimes causing dieters to become extremely stressed. Three months ago Nigella Lawson was in the middle of her weight loss efforts potentially causing a great deal of emotional stress. Her admission of being an ‘aquaholic’, whereby she needed to drink upwards of eight litres of water every day, would also have been causing significant physical stress on her metabolism.

As a result it is entirely feasible that stress may well have had some part to play in the condition of Nigella’s apparent hair loss this week.

What About Excessive Exercise?

Although exercise is essential for staying healthy, certain routines may be harmful to the hair of women genetically predisposed to hair loss through a condition known as Androgenic Alopecia. Certain exercises increase production of testosterone which is then broken down into a secondary chemical which attacks the hair follicles. The hair in these follicles then falls out, leading to bald patches, typically around the crown as demonstrated by Nigella.

Ms Lawson has spoken openly about her strenuous exercise regime in conjunction with her diet, which involves intense, 20-minute cardio workouts. It is probable that these frequent, intense workouts are raising her testosterone levels, thereby increasing the risk of hair loss through Androgenic Alopecia if she is inclined that way genetically.

What Can She Do?

Fortunately For Nigella, the photographs taken during the week suggest that her hair loss is in the early stages, apparently restricted to the crown of her head present. Better still, should the thinning hair be caused by Telogen Effluvium, the hair should regrow naturally within three to six months.

However, without a definitive diagnosis, Ms Lawson cannot be sure whether her hair loss is caused by Telogen Effluvium, or something more long-term, like female pattern hair loss. Obviously Nigella’s first course of action should be to obtain professional advice from a reputable hair loss expert who will be able to identify what is causing the hair loss, and formulate a treatment plan to help prevent further shedding.

With a proper diagnosis in place, and a personalised hair loss treatment plan underway, Nigella Lawson should find that her hair loss stabilises and eventually reverses. This will usually be achieved through a combination of medications and complementary therapies designed to stimulate and deliver nutrients to the hair follicles.

How Does it Work?

Most of the treatment plans designed to promote hair regrowth for women that are created by The Belgravia Centre involve use of the medication Minoxidil and various hair growth boosters. These products help collectively to help stimulate blood flow around the follicles, provide the required nutrients to the hair and block DHT which is the product that attacks and destroys healthy hair follicles. The Belgravia Centre offers various forms and strengths of Minoxidil which are individually prescribed to suit each patient’s pattern and stage of hair loss.

To find out how The Belgravia Centre can assist with hair loss caused by diet, exercise, stress or genetics, contact us to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation with one of our hair loss experts.

Any science fiction fans, whether or not they have hair loss, who are wondering when the new Star Trek film comes out will be pleased to know that production has now officially begun. The upcoming film, slated for a May 2013 release, is a sequel to 2009’s franchise reboot, Star Trek, which starred 31 year-old Christopher Pine as a young Captain James Kirk. The new film will reportedly feature Sherlock star Benedict Cumbernatch as its main villain.

Chris Pine will reprise his role as Captain Kirk, and though he shows no signs of hair loss at present, if he continues in the role for many years it will be interesting to see how producers of the long-running saga deal with the onset of Male Pattern Baldness, should it occur.

For many Trekkies who themselves have hair loss, one of the burning questions never answered in the almost fifty years of Star Trek films and television series is: “If it’s the future and they’ve got all this sophisticated technology, how come people still go bald?”

Bald starship captains in Star Trek

When it comes to hair loss in Star Trek, the shows’ producers seem to simply go with the hairline, or lack of it, that the actor himself has.

Hence Patrick Stewart, who suffered from Male Pattern Hair Loss at an early age, plays bald captain of the Enterprise, Jean Luc Picard, in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Male Pattern Hair Loss is a genetic condition that affects 50% if men at some point in their lives, but there are already treatments available to clear this problem up.

Captain Picard is not the only prominently bald member of Starfleet though. Captain Benjamin Sisko in the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was also entirely bald, in later seasons at least. Played by Avery Brooks, Sisko had hair but a prominently receding hairline during early seasons of the show, but later went entirely bald.

This change is reportedly due to the fact that Brooks had originally wanted to shave off all his hair and play the role bald, but the producers didn’t want another bald Captain following straight on from Picard. It seems that they eventually let the actor shave his hair off as he wanted to, leading to the later bald look, preferred by many fans.

One notable exception to the rule however is Canadian actor William Shatner, who played the original and best-known incarnation of Captain Kirk in the original 1960’s Star Trek TV series and subsequent films.

Shatner has reportedly worn a toupee to conceal his hair loss since the late fifties, and did so throughout his appearance in Star Trek, so the iconic image of Star Trek’s most prominent captain may itself be an illusion. Shatner’s toupee has even developed its own following of fans, as demonstrated at the tongue-in-cheek blog.

As for why hair loss continues even in the 24th century, the most common answer given is that, in such enlightened times, people simply don’t care about such things.

Back on earth: Hair loss treatments today

Despite the seeming inability of humanity to discover a cure for hair loss in a distant future where spaceships travel faster than the speed of light and teleporting is possible (as are artificial intelligence and human cloning), there are hair loss treatments available today which can treat your hair loss in the real world.

If you no longer wish to baldly go to the final frontier, or down to the corner shop for that matter, contact us at the Belgravia Centre to arrange a consultation.

After wearing a beanie for nearly three months solid, Jude Law finally chose to remove his headgear, revealing dramatic hair loss. Photographed in Paris whilst attending the Parisian premiere of ‘Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows’, fans were stunned to see just how far his hairline had receded since it was last seen back in October.

In December, Jude Law famously refused to remove his beanie hat whilst being interviewed on the set of the Graham Norton show. Despite being goaded by Graham Norton, his Sherlock Holmes co-star Robert Downey Jr, and the audience, Law kept his hat firmly in place saying, ‘I’ve been scalped for my new film and I’ve got had the most heinous hair cut you have ever seen.’ He then went on to say ‘You’ll see it in a cinema next year.’

And so it was that a few months later that people did indeed get to see Jude Law without his hat, but rather than a savage haircut, instead saw that his receding hairline had worsened dramatically.

Hey Jude, Don’t Make It Bad

Jude Law has always shown clear signs of a receding hairline ever since his big screen debut in the 1994 crime thriller ‘Shopping’ aged just 22. Since that time, Jude Law’s hair has thinned at the temples with increasing speed as his profile rose.

Over the intervening 17 years, Law’s hairline has been seen steadily receding at both temples leaving a thin strip of isolated hair along the top of his head. The effects of Male Pattern Balding on Law’s hair are pronounced, now that he has finally chosen to go bare headed once more.

Could He Have Stopped the Hair Loss Before Now?

Despite the marked loss of hair now visible, Jude Law could have stopped, and potentially reversed, his receding hairline many years ago before it became quite so obvious. With careful use of medications and other complementary treatments, Law could quite easily have prevented his hairline from becoming a media story and avoided the need for wearing a procession of strange hats.

Hair loss specialists are all agreed that proactive treatment is the best way to deal with hair loss, and that the earlier expert advice is sought, the better the chances of correcting a receding hairline before it becomes noticeable. Early treatment has the added advantage of being significantly cheaper than the extreme techniques, such as hair transplants.

Is it Too Late for Jude Law to Save His Hair?

Despite the advanced stages of hair loss shown in the photographs taken this week, it is still perfectly possible that further thinning can be stopped and regrowth started. The Belgravia Centre have a high degree of success in restoring hairlines and other patterns of male hair loss.

Researchers noted that the hair loss appeared in a line projected directly from infected teeth and could therefore could cause hair loss in the beard, moustache, eyebrows or scalp depending on the patient. The study also concluded that the infection and hair loss affected men and women alike.

What is Alopecia Areata?

The study, overseen by professors José Antonio Gil Montoya and Antonio Cutando Soriano from the Department of Stomatology at the University of Grenada, noted that the subjects they observed experienced hair loss caused by Alopecia Areata.

The actual cause of Alopecia Areata is not yet known, but it is understood to be caused by a patient’s own immune system ‘attacking’ the hair follicles and causing them to enter a resting phase known as ‘telogen’. Hair follicles in the telogen phase shut down and all hair growth stops until the attached hair falls out. It is perfectly normal for hair follicles to enter telogen, but they do not normally tend to so in distinct patches as is the case in Alopecia Areata.

The observations of the University of Granada research team seem to confirm the relation between infection and the immune system, but for the affected people it would appear that they experience an extreme reaction. Instead of specifically targeting the infected area however, the patient’s immune system goes into overdrive and attacks the hair follicles too.

Regrowing the Hair

The good news is that for many people with Alopecia Areata, their hair tends to regrow without medical intervention over the course of several months. However, because the condition and its exact causes remain something of a mystery to doctors, they cannot provide exact timelines to people affected.

Using the information gathered by the team at the University of Granada however, one of the first actions a person affected by patchy hair loss or a receding hair line should be to visit a hair loss specialist such as The Belgravia Centre. A hair loss expert can accurately identify the type of hair loss and suggest a relevant course of treatment to the patient. The hair loss expert will also be able to advise whether another condition is at work, such as a receding hairline caused by Male Pattern Balding. In the event that a diagnosis of Alopecia Areata is given, the next step might be to visit a dentist for an oral check up.

If the dentist can find evidence of an oral infection they will be able to prescribe medication such as antibiotics to fight the infection. For the hair loss however, it might be an idea to contact the experts to enquire about treatment courses tailored specifically to your condition, pattern and stage of hair loss. Treatments such as minoxidil 12.5% cream are ideal for regrowing patches of hair loss caused by Alopecia.

Hair Regrowth for the Future

People who experience hair loss as a result of Alopecia Areata may find that it is not a one off occurrence. Around 25% of those diagnosed with the condition will experience a recurrence, making it essential that they obtain quality expert advice as soon as they can to deal with any underlying problems.

As well as dental infections, Alopecia Areata can also be caused by hormonal shifts during pregnancy, allergies, certain chemicals and even seasonal changes. The Belgravia Centre can help identify potential causes of hair loss for their clients and advise on lifestyle choices to lower the risk of future incidences.

People experiencing hair loss caused by Alopecia Areata, or believe themselves to be at risk of developing the condition, should be assured however that of those who contract the disorder, 75% will never have the same issue again. These people will find that their hair grows back normally given enough time although they are still advised to seek professional advice.

To find out more about Alopecia Areata and how The Belgravia Centre can assist, contact us to arrange a free, no obligation appointment with one of our hair loss specialists or if you are not within easy reach of London, fill in our online diagnostic form to obtain a personalised hair loss treatment programme that can be sent to you wherever you live.

Most R&B stars are known for being particularly image conscious, often sporting fine suits, expensive jewellery and other fashion accessories. But like the rest of us, there is little they can do to avoid the factors foisted upon them by them by their genetics. One such factor is premature hair loss.

R&B singer Ne-Yo revealed recently that during the filming of upcoming war film Red Tails, he was teased by his co-stars about his receding hairline.

Red Tails follows the exploits of a group of African American fighter pilots, the Tuskegee Airmen, during World War 2, and Ne-Yo’s co-stars include Cuba Gooding Junior and hip-hop artist Method Man.

As part of their training for the film, the assorted actors and recording artists that make up the cast were sent to a ‘boot-camp’ at a military training facility. It was here that Ne-Yo’s hair loss was the subject of some good-natured ribbing.

Ne-Yo explained that due to boredom amongst the co-stars, “We would just crack on each other. During the bootcamp there was no TV or cellphone, so at night… we’d just sit up and talk about each other.”

“We would make up movies based on whatever affliction that person had. Like, everybody knows my hairline is ridiculously comical so one of the films was Where Did My Hairline Go? starring Ne-Yo – and the whole room would crack up.”

Last year, after a twitter user touched unkindly on the singer’s hairline, he responded by tweeting on his account “Me n’ my harline (sic) just raised 100k for Japan, what did you do today?” and “Not a problem. Why would I focus on my fleeting hairline when my credit line is SO prominent? LOL!!”

What’s under Ne-Yo’s hat?

29 year old Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, does have a particularly high hairline, caused by the common genetic hair loss condition Male Pattern Baldness. But it seems that rather than doing anything about it he has opted to conceal his diminishing hairline with a series of ever more stylish hats. As he is rarely seen without a hat, his fans may indeed be surprised by the extent of Ne-Yo’s hair loss, but a Google image search reveals one of few pictures sans hat – a mug shot taken after his arrest for reckless driving without a license.

Judging by the photograph, his hair loss has progressed quite a bit, with an ever receding hairline, but it’s not too late for Ne-Yo to do something to reverse it, should he choose to ditch the hats.

In the meantime, you may, or may not, be able catch a glimpse of Ne-Yo’s hairline when Red Tails, produced by Star Wars Jedi Master George Lucas, is released in the UK on an as yet unconfirmed date (US release is 20th January).

Treatments available for Ne-Yo’s receding hairline

At The Belgravia Centre, we could help Ne-Yo stabilise his hair loss and even re-grow his disappearing hairline, using scientifically proven treatments such as Minoxidil (with booster additives) and Propecia, and supportive treatments like the HairMax LaserComb or Hair Vitalics nutritional supplement.

So Ne-Yo, if you’re reading this, contact us to arrange a consultation to see how we can help you, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme which we can ship Stateside, or anywhere else in the world.

With all the glamour of Hollywood and heroic deeds performed onscreen, sometimes it’s easy to forget that the actors we see 30-feet high on the silver screen are in reality just men.

But men they are, and actors are included along with the rest of us in the 50% genetic sweepstakes for suffering from Male Pattern Baldness by the age of 50.

At 42, Christian Slater is one actor who has suffered some hair loss, though not as noticeably as some of his contemporaries (for a much more severe vision of how Slater’s hair loss could look, check out the film He Was a Quiet Man). A high forehead and receding hairline betray the actor’s age more truthfully than his relatively youthful complexion.

True Romance?

But now, the Daily Mail has claimed that he may have undergone treatment to restore his hairline to that of his more youthful days when his image graced the bedroom wall of many a teenage girl.

Slater had a seemingly revitalised look when he appeared at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, where he was promoting his latest television series, Breaking In. According to the Mail: “His usual brown, slicked back ‘do was replaced with a sharper, edgier dark blonde that his character Oz dons in the TV show. And his hairline appeared to be making a surprise comeback, perhaps the result of a replacement procedure.”

Lies and Illusions?

Looking at the pictures, Slater’s hair does indeed look different. However, a closer look reveals that the hairline is relatively unchanged, compared to pictures from several years ago, and the difference in appearance may be more easily attributable to the fact that the hair has been combed forward rather than being swept back as in the past. The lighter colour of course also does wonders for portraying a more youthful appearance.

Other pictures from the event in Pasadena, California, show that the actor’s hairline is still very much receding, casting further doubt on any ‘replacement procedure’, as the newspaper puts it. By this phrasing, the Daily Mail presumably means a hair transplant, in which normal healthy follicles are surgically removed from one part of the head and implanted in another area where hair loss is apparent.

Though such procedures are often popular with celebrities with money to burn, a hair transplant is far from the only treatment for hair loss, or even the best.

Hair loss treatments

While they may be popular with the rich and famous, hair transplant procedures are out of reach for many people with more modest means, costing anything between £3,000 and £30,000, depending on the number of follicles which need to be transplanted and the clinic you visit.

Money aside, it should also be remembered that a hair transplants is a surgical procedure, and caries the same risks as any other type of invasive surgery. There is also the requirement to use preventative treatments (usually indefinitely) following a hair transplant to maintain the hair that has not been surgically replaced.

Should Christian Slater wish to reverse his receding hairline, he has the excellent option of getting in touch with the Belgravia Centre. We offer a range of scientifically proven hair loss treatments, which don’t involve massive costs or surgery. Propecia, Minoxidil, HairMax LaserCombs , Hair Vitalics and clinical therapy are just a few of the treatments which we use to achieve some fantastic results, as evidenced by our client success stories (the largest collection of its kind in the world).
