‘Can You Use Minoxidil With Hair Concealers?’

HairlossANSWERS - Click to Submit Your Query to Our Hair Loss Experts

Name: Ann

Question: I understand that washing your hair every other day is acceptable, but with the Minoxidil being put on your hair daily, what about if I need to use concealing powders during the day to hide the thinning patches?  Can you use the Minoxidil through the powder or does it mean that if I have used the concealers each day I will then need to wash my hair daily before applying the treatment?

Hair Concealer FibresAnswer: Hi, Ann. As far as we are aware, all concealing hair fibre products and spray cover ups are suitable for use in conjunction with minoxidil.

You do not have to wash your hair every day before applying these hair loss concealers, however, there are two reasons why you may want to do this.

The first is that, although it is entirely possible for you to drip the Minoxidil through the concealing hair fibres, there is a chance it may look messy depending on whether or not a waterproof locking spray is used. This is something you can experiment with to see if you are happy with the appearance – if you are then shampooing your hair every other day is fine.

The second reason is that freshly washed hair looks fuller so it will give thinning hair an added natural boost. Whilst a lot of people think they lose more hair if they wash their hair daily, this is actually a myth. The only downside is if you do not have the time to fit a daily wash and blow dry into your routine.

Can minoxidle be used with hair fibre of any brand

Sarah Belgravia

Hi Rohan, You would need to ask the manufacturers of the hair fibres to be certain as this is not something we deal with. However, if you follow the application process outlined here the minoxidil should not interfere with the thickening fibres so using any brand of fibres should be fine as long as you are applying them once the minoxidil has fully absorbed into the scalp.
