‘Can I Grow Back a Receding Hairline?’

HairlossANSWERS - Click to Submit Your Query to Our Hair Loss Experts

Name: David

Question: After cutting my hair very low, I noticed that at the side of my head i had not much hair growing. Although I never had full hair at the side or front of my head, it was worse this time is there a way I can grow it out back?

Answer: Hi, David. If you have been experiencing hair loss from around the sides and front of your hairline then this is likely to be male pattern baldness.

receding hairline is a common trait of this genetic condition which is permanent and progresses over time. There are effective ways to regrow a receding hairline using clinically-proven hair loss treatments, however, as you mention you have ‘never’ had full hair in this area, whether or not they will work for you depends on the state of the hair follicles around your widow’s peak.

If the skin has turned smooth and shiny in the areas where the hair has been thinning, this is likely to be a sign that the follicles are no longer working and, if that is the case, treatment will not be able to revive them. However, if there is even thinning hair visible in these areas, that is a sign that the follicles are still functioning and treatment may have something to work with.

At Belgravia we have seen many Success Stories from using formulations of high strength minoxidil to treat stubborn areas of hair loss, such as the hairline. The various preparations offered from our in-clinic pharmacies are all topically applied so that they are easy to control and get straight to the site of the thinning. Men can also team this with the once-daily oral tablet finasteride 1mg which is used to prevent the formation of the enzyme which causes the hair to thin and recede in cases of male pattern baldness – DHT.

It may be best to seek professional advice on your specific situation. A hair loss specialist nurse will be able to assess your level and pattern of shedding in order to give you a prognosis as to whether or not a bespoke course of hair loss treatment is likely to be of use to you, and if they believe there is hope that you may benefit, they will provide you with personalised treatment recommendations.
