8 Year Old Raises Over £2,000 for Little Princess Trust

Charlotte May Female Pattern Hair LossWhen eight-year-old Charlotte May lost her beloved granny to cancer last year, it was a devastating blow. However, the tragic event inspired the Cardiff schoolgirl to donate some of her long brown locks to charity, so that she could help others battling cancer.

Charlotte chose to donate her hair to Little Princess Trust, one of the charities we support here at The Belgravia Centre. Little Princess Trust specialises in making real-hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair.

Charlotte also set up a fundraiser to help with the costs of manufacturing the wig. Friends and family were so moved by Charlotte’s act of kindness that she quickly amassed over £2,000 for the charity, far exceeding her original target of £200. Charlotte’s mother Jayne was overwhelmed with the response, saying: “I only set a target of £200 thinking it was a realistic amount. On the day at the hairdresser, Clyde Casey in Canton, we raised £90 alone.”

Charlotte was equally as surprised by the generous response from supporters: “I thought I’d raise around £300 – my head teacher Mrs Davies put the event on Twitter and my friends sponsored me.”

Raising money in honour of granny

It seems that generosity runs in the family. Jayne says that her daughter’s caring nature was very much like that of her grandmother. She explains the two were extremely close, and shared many interests: “Charlotte was very close to granny, and it hit her hard when she died. They did a lot together, cooking, they would go to the library, knitting.”

Though initially nervous, Charlotte is now happy with her new hairstyle: “I was very scared at the hairdressers but I like it now.”

About Little Princess Trust
