I Need My Hair to Hurry Up and Fall Out

Louis Walsh Transplant The Belgravia Centre

One of many celebrities fuelling the latest craze in treatment of hair loss. Louis Walsh pictured here post Transplant and, right, before.

The celebrity craze for hair transplants has led to some rather strange attitudes to hair loss and its various treatments of late, particularly as many people see hair transplant surgery as the only way to correct a receding hair line. High profile surgery adherents including Wayne Rooney, Louis Walsh and Gordon Ramsay all had hair transplants.

As a result many men who notice hair loss may think of surgical solutions to their balding without properly investigating the alternatives. One man who posted on another hair loss blog is actually wanting to increase his hairloss so that he can undergo surgery sooner.

Hair Transplant Surgery – Let’s Consider the Alternatives

Before-and-after photos of Wayne Rooney certainly reveal a dramatic change in his hairline following the well-publicised transplant operation and there is little doubt that the results were initially impressive.

Rooney’s hair loss problems were much more high profile than most people’s would be so perhaps he opted for one expensive course of action without considering other, highly effective and reasonably priced options. Perhaps this applies to other celebrities experiencing hair loss too.

Retain and Regrow, Not Replace

Rather than rushing to lose hair so that a transplant can be initiated, a better course of action is to look into maintaining existing hair and wherever possible promoting various degrees of regrowth. Unfortunately many people believe that once lost, hair is gone forever, but there are medically proven treatments that make that statement untrue.

“They were all unbelievably nice with me. It’s been a long year and Hair loss is something I never thought I’d have to deal with (I knew I had lots of problems but this was not one of them!!).  Thank you.”

“In general.. both people I saw were extremely informative and laid everything out on the table for me to make a decision.  I didn’t feel pressured or obliged to confirm or reject any treatment.  The advice genuinely seemed to be given for my own benefit and not for the sole intention of making a sale.  Experience and previous cases were used by both individuals to better help me come to a decision.  My overall impression is very good.”

High Strength 12.5% Minoxidil

Posted on February 7th, 2012 by Jonny, under Alopecia, Female Hair Loss, Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Hair Loss Product Reviews, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Minoxidil 12.5% Extra Strength CreamThe Belgravia Centre’s 12.5% minoxidil high strength cream is the only product of its kind in the world. It has been specially designed by the Belgravia pharmacy to target stubborn areas of hair loss and complement other hair growth treatments such as Propecia, minoxidil 5% + MPG liquid and hair growth supplements such as Hair Vitalics.

Minoxidil is a medication that is licensed by the MHRA (the UK’s medical regulatory body) to treat genetic forms of hair loss (Male Pattern Hair Loss and Female Pattern Hair Loss). Following a large-scale clinical study, a 5% dose of the product was found to prevent hair loss in most cases and regrow hair for many of those people. After treating patients with minoxidil 12.5% for a number of years, many have reported increased results from the use of Belgravia’s high-strength minoxidil cream.

Minoxidil is also known to help other hair loss conditions such as Alopecia Areata, Traction Alopecia and Diffuse Thinning with great success, although unlike for genetic hair loss, there has not been an official clinical study carried out for these conditions. Our hair loss specialists have found minoxidil 12.5% cream to be especially beneficial for patchy hair loss conditions such as mild to moderate Alopecia Areata or Traction Alopecia. This is because the cream can be applied directly to the areas of hair loss without wastage or dripping, which can be a problem with a liquid minoxidil.

If you would like to enquire about the treatments on offer from The Belgravia Centre or arrange a free consultation at our London clinic, please contact us on 0800 077 6666 or message the centre if you are from the UK. For all of those outside of London or the UK, please feel free to complete our online diagnostic form for a home-use treatment programme that can be sent anywhere in the world. You can also view our hair loss success stories, which is the largest collection of its kind in the world and features ‘before and during treatment’ photos and comments written by some of our happy hair loss treatment users.

Declan Donnelly – No Hair Transplant (But May Use Hair Loss Treatment)

Ant and Dec at The NTA's 2012 The Belgravia Centre

Ant and Dec (right) at the National Television Awards 2012

A little while ago we reported that Declan Donnelly – Dec, of Ant and Dec fame – had been rumoured to have had a hair transplant or some other form of hair loss treatment.

Now, a source close to the star has come forward to put the record straight on the popular presenter’s hair loss and apparent re-growth.

At the end of January, the unnamed source told The Sun that, “Declan has certainly not had a transplant.” Some in the media, The Sun included, have speculated in the past that Dec’s changing hairline might have been the result of a surgical procedure, though this was based entirely on speculation.

According to The Sun, Dec had, “set tongues wagging by appearing at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night with a luxuriant head of hair – a far cry from his previous thinning mop.

The source went on to say that, “He knows his hairline is receding and has taken some steps to tackle it. There are all sorts of remedies out there you can get, including tablets and shampoos. He’s not exactly kept it a secret. He was even joking about it at the NTAs (National Television Awards) as people he hadn’t seen for a while had noticed the change.”

The source does not appear to have gone on record saying that Dec is definitely taking the aforementioned tablets and shampoos, but according to The Sun, “He is understood to have opted for a mix of special one-a-day tablets of hair growth chemical and shampoo… one tablet he is likely to have started taking is Propecia.”

What is Propecia and how does it work?

Propecia is one of only two pharmaceutical treatments which have been scientifically proven to actively stabilise and reverse hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness. It works by inhibiting formation of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase in the body, which in turn prevents the formation of the natural chemical Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is this DHT which is responsible for the shrinking of hair follicles to an almost microscopic level, thus leading to the appearance of hair loss. By reducing levels of DHT in the body, Propecia can effectively keep Male Pattern Baldness at bay, and give it a chance to re-grow.

If Declan Donnelly is indeed using Propecia to treat his hair loss condition, then he should be reassured by the fact that it has been licensed for this purpose by the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency(MHRA) here in the UK, and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The only other pharmaceutical treatment to receive this recognition is Minoxidil.

For many people, Propecia, and Minoxidil, are a far better way of dealing with hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness than having and expensive hair transplant. Hair Transplants can also be risky, as they are a form of invasive surgery, and what’s more, no guarantees are provided that they will work, despite their often £6,000+ price tag. In fact Propecia is often given to people after they have had a hair transplant.

It’s likely that Dec is taking Propecia as part of a comprehensive treatment programme which includes a variety of complementary hair loss treatments. This would involve first a diagnosis, to assess and evaluate the state of the hair loss, followed by the recommendation of a number of treatments.

Hair loss treatments at The Belgravia Centre

This is what we do at The Belgravia Centre. We treat each case of hair loss individually, and rather than prescribing a single ‘miracle cure’ for all, we take time to identify the treatments which will work best for the individual with hair loss. As well as Propecia and Minoxidil, we may recommend a course of clinical treatments, such as laser and infra-red light therapy, steam and massage treatments.

We also use hair growth boosters to stimulate the follicles and ensure that your hair is at optimum health. These include FDA cleared HairMax LaserCombs – a handheld laser device for use on the scalp – and our own Hair Vitalics nutritional supplement.

If like Dec you suffer from Male Pattern Baldness or another hair loss condition, you can take steps to prevent further hair loss and re-grow the hair you’ve lost. To find out more about our hair loss treatments contact us today for a no obligation consultation. Alternatively, fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home use treatment programme, wherever you are in the world.

Ferris Bueller’s Hair’s Day Off

Posted on February 6th, 2012 by Chriss, under Hair Loss, Hair Loss News, Male Hair Loss | No Comments | Ask A Question

Matthew Broderick Receding Hairline“If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it,” were the immortal words once uttered by Matthew Broderick in the hit eighties film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  He was of course talking about life, not hair loss, but anyone whose seen his new advert for Honda could be easily misled.

If you haven’t seen the film, Broderick plays the role of teenager Ferris Bueller, who decides that not only is he not going to school today, he’s going to have all kinds of crazy adventures with his two friends into the bargain.

The new advert for Honda’s CR-V sees him reprise the role with tongue firmly in cheek, but for anyone who has failed to see any of his films since Ferris, the most notable thing about the commercial may be Broderick’s balding and receding hairline.

The advert was screened at this year’s Super Bowl – a big day for both American Football and commercials on the other side of the pond. It begins with Broderick feigning illness to his agent before embarking on a series of homages to the film, which has since achieved the status of a minor classic. If you want to check out Matthew Broderick’s middle-aged day off, you can find the video below. His original hairline meanwhile can be seen in the original trailer for the 1986 film, also found below.

Ferris Bueller grows up and gets Male Pattern Baldness

Of course, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off first hit our screens 26 years ago, when Matthew Broderick was just 23 years old. Now, with his fiftieth birthday coming up in March, it’s completely understandable that his hair isn’t quite what it used to be. It’s been estimated that 50% of all men will suffer from Male Pattern Baldness by the time they reach 50.

Of course, Matthew Broderick’s receding hairline is far from being the worst case of Male Pattern Baldness, and many people who were themselves just teenagers when the film came out may be today showing more serious and noticeable hair loss.

So, at the age of 49, why hasn’t Broderick lost more of his hair? The secret could well be in his genes – everyone suffers from different patterns of genetic hair loss, and to varying extents, based on how their body reacts to the naturally occurring chemical dihydrotestosterone. Some may lose most or all of their hair; others may just get a receding hairline like Matthew Broderick, while some people may not suffer from genetic hair loss, or Androgenetic Alopecia, at all.

Take a stand against Male Pattern Baldness

If you too are noticing hair loss due to Male Pattern Baldness, contact us at the Belgravia Centre for a consultation, or fill in our online diagnostic form to receive a home-use treatment programme. To paraphrase Ferris Bueller, don’t sit around as the events that affect you unfold, take a stand and defend your hairline. We have the world’s largest collection of hair loss success stories, featuring ‘before and during treatment’ photos and comments written by users of our treatment programmes. We think you’ll be amazed at the results that so many men (and women) achieve.

David Beckham Fears Baldness

David Beckham H&M Campaign The Belgravia Centre

Fighting Fit - David's hair shows no sign of defeat in his recent H&M campaign shots

During a recent interview with the Daily Star newspaper, footballer and global superstar David Beckham confessed that he fears going bald in the future. When asked about whether he had undergone a hair transplant, or would consider one in future, he said, “Someone said I’d had a hair transplant. There’s definitely nothing wrong with doing that, but I don’t think personally I would. If I do start showing signs of going bald, then I will shave it off. I’ve still got hair. I’m still fighting it.”

Many of Beckham’s fears about hair loss seem to stem from the fact that his father Ted went bald, and genetically he too stands to experience a receding hairline or thinning hair as a result. Yet despite the popularity of hair transplant operations, such as that undergone by fellow England footballer Wayne Rooney, Beckham has already ruled them out.

However, because David Beckham is aware that his family has a predisposition to male pattern balding he can take proactive steps to retain his healthy hair before the he noticeably loses any at all.

How Do You Play This? Passing or Possession?

From what Beckham said, it is clear that he is taking good care of his hair, but doing little to actively prevent future hair loss. Knowing that there is a good chance he will later develop some form of hair loss, such as Androgenic Alopecia, based on his family history, Beckham is missing a good chance to retain all the hair he has from now on.

Eat Well for Hair Health

As an athlete and major media star, David Beckham is keeping himself in excellent physical shape through good diet and exercise. Healthy hair and continued growth rely on a steady supply of key vitamins and minerals being delivered through the blood stream to the hair follicles in the scalp. Some hair loss experts also suggest that consumption of foods high in antioxidants, such as berries, tomatoes and peppers can also reduce the symptoms of balding.

Given the importance of diet, Beckham would do well to maintain his current eating patterns to stave off a potential receding hair line in the future. Beckham may also benefit from choosing to use the unique HairVitalics dietary supplement available exclusively from The Belgravia Centre.

Reduce Stress to Prevent a Receding Hairline

Stress has been identified as one of several contributing factors in hair loss, particularly in relation to the condition known as Telogen Effluvium. Often hair loss caused by stress is temporary and regrows of its own accord at a later date.

However, knowing that stress can cause or exacerbate hair loss conditions, anyone who fears they are at risk would be well advised to avoid certain situations and activities which place them under pressure.

David Beckham and his wife Victoria have a number of contractual obligations both on and off the football pitch which means that they both lead extremely busy lives. This constant round of engagements places them under extreme pressure, potentially leading to stress and thereby raising the risk of hair loss. If David is serious about maintaining his hairline in future, he might do well to scale back some of his activities.

The Number 7 is Making a Play Forward

Yet despite these tips, David Beckham may only be able to slow the onset of baldness, rather than prevent it entirely. Androgenic Alopecia caused by genetics cannot be halted through lifestyle changes alone and eventually any man or women who is susceptible to pattern balding will succumb.

Fortunately there are a number of extremely successful hair loss treatments which can be employed as soon as the first signs of hair loss are noticed. Men and women both experience shedding of hair on a daily basis, with 80 to 100 strands being about average, and normally new hair grows at the same rate to replace that which is lost. However if a person notices consistent loss of more than this, they could well be experiencing a more serious condition such as Androgenic Alopecia.

Because prevention is always better than cure, a person losing hair should seek professional advice as soon as they realise there is a problem. By acting quickly, hair loss experts can implement a treatment routine to regrow the hair before anyone else notices a receding hairline or thinning vertex.

Belgravia Centre Before AfterBetter Than a Hair Transplant

What is perhaps most worrying with David Beckham’s interview is his assumption that a hair transplant is the only solution to balding.  The publicity surrounding Beckham’s England teammate Wayne Rooney, and his hair transplant has unfortunately led to many people assuming that they cannot combat their own hair loss in any other way.

An initial consultation with a hair loss expert should quickly identify any hair loss condition and allow for the creation of a personalised treatment plan to combat the issue. Every client of The Belgravia Centre receives a unique treatment plan formulated to meet their specific needs and requirements for maximum hair regrowth success, and the plan can involve several different elements. This can be delivered by post via our online diagnostic form as well as in person.

Normally the Belgravia Centre uses a number of treatments which are licensed by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) for treating hair loss. These treatments proven to slow and reverse hair loss and Belgravia uses a number of booster products and clinical monitoring to help boost results and ensure optimum rates of regrowth.

He Scores!

Now that Beckham has gone on record to state he will never undergo a hair transplant operation, he has potentially made a number of problems for himself, particularly if, as he fears, his hair starts to fall out. Fortunately other treatments available could not only help David retain his hair in tip-top condition, but in such a way that no one ever notices it had started to fall out.

To find out more about dealing with a receding hairline early, contact us to arrange a free, no-obligation appointment with one of our hair loss experts today.

“I 1st visited the Belgravia Centre just over a year ago after seeing the advert on TV!  I had noticed my hair thining for a number of years and I finally decided to seek professional advice (from Belgravia Centre).  My 1st impression was a warm, friendly environment with extremely helpful staff.  I saw the “hair expert” who took photos and recommended the treatment to follow.  After then discussing a …price, which I thought was quite reasonable for a years treatment and 4 visits back to the centre for check-ups/further treatment, I decided to run with it.  The results have been really positive, so much so that a number of people/friends have actually commented on how much thicker and better my hair has looked which has filled me with new found confidence!!  My renewal for another year is now coming up and I have no hesitation in carrying this on.  I thoroughly recommend this treatment to anyone suffering hair loss and wanting a good head of hair again!!!  Pictures of my results attached.”
